Departmental Functions
Planning and Administration
The Department is responsible for the planning and administration of all City recreation programs and activities. The Department also participates in the evaluation of facility needs, and cooperates in the planning and scheduling of the City's Capital Improvement Program. The Laguna Niguel Parks and Recreation Master Plan was originally adopted in 1989 and was updated in 1998. It serves as an overall guide to the expansion of recreation programs and the construction and improvement of City parks and recreational facilities. The Department also administers recreation program registrationCrown Valley Community Park and Sea Country Senior and Community Center scheduling, and prepares the City Recreation Brochure. Youth & Adult Sports
The Department works with LNYSA, AYSO, Laguna Niguel Laguna Niguel Little League, Rancho Niguel Little League, Laguna Niguel Girls Softball, Junior All-American Football, the YMCA and other youth and adult sports organizations to schedule and maximize the use of existing facilities, and plan for future facility needs. Youth and Teen Programs
The Department offers activities for youth and teens to experience the outdoors and to develop a deep sense of appreciation of our parks. Explore Crown Valley Park through the Summer Day Camps program; where your camper will be a Rabbit, Squirrel, Coyote or Roadrunner. Fall into the spirit with our Haunted Trails, Teens for Turkey-food drive, and Back to School- Rule the Pool. Winter fun may be seasonal play, magic show, or snowboard / ski trips, middle school dances, and an annual Battle of the Bands event. Action oriented youth and teens are invited to skate or board at our supervised concrete skatepark, which offers a Haunted Contest; seasonal camps, year round lessons, and an all night over-night experience.For more information on Youth and Teen Programs, contact: Gretchen Malcolm or (949) 425-5100.

Special Events and Contracted Programs
The Department offers a variety of special events for Laguna Niguel residents and families during the year (see Special Events Calendar). Contract instructors also offer a variety of special interest classes such as: Dance, Exercise, Music, Martial Arts, Dog Obedience and others. Volunteer Opportunities
Parks and recreation has a variety of volunteer opportunities throughout the year; including Haunted Trails, the Holiday Parade and youth events. For more information, call the hotline at (949) 362-4351.
